Teaching for a Positive Future!
3rd, 4th and 5th Class in a Roscommon school are stunning other schools and the local authority with their outstanding Science that has real life impact in a world filled with environmental concerns.
Mr Carson – Science Leader stated “We had some eco-awareness signs on the playground and the children could tell me about them but NOT apply this to how they actually lived their lives. I incorporated recycling, up-cycling, repairing and repurposing items into the SESE - Science Curriculum – and it has been a huge success!
“This is such a great way of demonstrating the link between environmentally-aware and environmentally-active within science! My children have loved finding out how to repair and repurpose items that they would habitually throw away.” - Miss Murphy, 5th Class
“I have been overwhelmed and highly impressed with the proactive approach to linking current environmental issues with what has been a rather dry, fact-based Science curriculum! The work undertaken by the teaching team here is impressive and the learning is real and impactful rather than hypothetical.” - A. Davies – LA Advisor
“I couldn’t believe how much stuff we threw away when it could have been repaired or up-cycled. My class have loved learning how to do this within the science curriculum and my mum says it has changed her way of thinking about throwing things away too. I tell her everything!” – Keilly 5th Class
“We have seen lots about environmental protesters on the news, but pupils said they just complain. We are actually doing something that will make a difference and it's bringing science teaching about the environment up to date!” – Mrs Wilson - Principal
